Mirecourt, Bertolini Violin circa 1900 (OV24001)
Length of Back: 362mm
This French violin was made in Mirecourt, France between 1890 to 1926 and features a striking one-piece back of deeply flamed maple. The neck in particular has attractive grain too. The varnish of a warm reddish-brown colour on a yellow ground. Not to be confused with Nicolas Bertholini violins, (note the H) this one is a hand made violin by a good luthier and branded internally as can be seen in the photos. The back shows some wear and tear commensurate with age and plenty of use down the years.
It produces a full, resonant and warm tone with a brightness in the E string. It plays so easily and is suitable for either folk or classical genres. It is currently set up with Spirocore Strings and Wittner tailpiece.
A nice violin, suitable for a committed player!
