Orchard Violins, Ballymoyer

Marcellus Robin 'Sous la Direction' Violin 1927 No: 300 (OV260415)

The Marcellus Robin workshop in Bordeaux was active in the early 20th century, producing high-quality, professionally-made instruments under strict supervision.  These violins include a "Fait sous la Direction de..." line. They are characterized by robust, often Stradivarius-pattern construction, fine-grained spruce, and a distinctive amber-reddish varnish.  This violin was made in 1927 and is number 300.

This particular example has a powerful, balanced sound and fine craftsmanship, although it has two repaired table cracks at some point in the past.  It is set up with Helicore String and Wittner Tailpiece and plays with fantastic response and power.  A great violin, ideal for a committed traditional fiddler!
